Field Test: Klim Krios Pro ECE/DO – Is this the perfect helmet for adventure motorcyclists?

Sprache wechseln German

Are you an adventure motorcyclist in search of the perfect helmet? Well, here’s something for you to consider: the Klim Krios Pro! This state-of-the-art headgear has withstood rigorous testing around the world and it’s time to uncover if it truly lives up to the hype. Join me as I take a closer look at the features and performance of this first-class helmet designed specifically for adventurers.

When it comes to adventure motorcycling, having the right tools is crucial, and a reliable helmet is at the top of the list. Enter the Klim Krios Pro, a helmet that has endured the toughest conditions imaginable. From rugged terrains to unpredictable weather, this helmet has seen it all. But does it deliver on its promises?

MATERIALS

The Krios Pro helmet is constructed using high-performance carbon fibre with an aerodynamic visor and spoiler. Since the helmet also incorporates Koroyd® materials, it is incredibly lightweight in a category that typically leans towards heavier accessories such as a large peak.

Tipping the scales at only around 1,300 grams has certainly proved beneficial. However, the Krios Pro’s amazing weight result and high-quality material, may not suit some people because the helmet only comes in two outer shell sizes, whereas some of its competitors provide at least four. The more outer shell sizes you have, the better it will fit whilst remaining proportional to the rest of your body. I didn’t run into a problem, but it may be worth keeping in mind.

VENTILATION

The front of the helmet has two large, fully adjustable vents: one in the chin and the other in the forehead. Together, they provide a good flow of air into the helmet, and the chin vent comes with a foam filter to prevent dust and small bugs flying straight into your mouth.

At the rear, there are two exhaust vents beneath the cowl and two pairs at the bottom on both sides.

When it comes to ventilation, Koroyd’s characteristics play a big role thanks to the double-walled tubes allowing unrivalled air circulation. If that’s not enough and you choose to ditch the visor in favour of goggles, for even more air, rest assured that Krios Pro is fully compatible thanks to the large visor aperture.

VISOR AND PEAK

The Krios Pro includes two Pinlock prepared visors: one clear and one photochromic, which means it automatically adjusts its tint to light intensity. To swap the visors, release the thumbscrew at the top and then turn the two screws on each side of the helmet. Now, you can take both the visor and the peak off.

INTERIOR AND LOCK

Klim’s Klimatek™ material, which is moisture wicking and antimicrobial, lines the comfortable interior. If you need to clean the liner, pull out the velcro-secured cheek pads, then release the two buttons at the back and remove.

Airflow through the Klimatec fabric is outstanding.

When it comes to communications, the Sena 10U Bluetooth fits perfectly inside the Krios Pro.

Another feature you won’t want to miss once you’ve tried it, is the magnetic Fidlock chin strap which makes closing and opening the lock a one-handed affair, even if you’re still wearing your gloves.

THE RIDING EXPERIENCE

After tens of thousands of kilometres riding both on and off pavement, the Krios Pro’s light weight, aerodynamics, and comfort have exceeded my expectations. Even the wind noise levels are pleasantly low despite the potentially noisy characteristics of the Koroyd construction.

Probably the most impressive feature I learned to appreciate when riding in the Algerian desert is the helmet’s ventilation system. Despite scorching ambient temperatures, I managed to keep a cool head while I was riding.

CONCLUSION

Is the Klim Krios Pro the perfect helmet for adventure motorcyclists? In my opinion, it’s about as close as you can expect to get, at the time of writing.

Klim not only dug deep into their development resources when they designed the helmet, they have clearly been listening to their customers. The resulting product is truly state-of-the art and ticks all the right boxes.
