Just one year after the customer placed his order, the first INEOS Grenadier Trialmaster in black with a contrasting red chassis rolled off the forecourt at Matzker, in Cologne. After looking for a new vehicle for his next adventures, the owner, an experienced overlander, had the Grenadier built according to his requirements.
THE GRENADIER
The INEOS Grenadier is a true off-roader built for travel. The steel/aluminium body sits on a ladder frame, just like the original 4x4s that made their debut in the late 1940s. The power plant comes from BMW, the transmission from ZF, and the axles are custom-designed by Carraro. Compared to many modern cars, the Grenadier gets by with relatively few electronics and computers.
The interior offers driver and passenger comfort with seats by RECARO and an exceptionally well-appointed cockpit with naval and aviation details.
It’s hard to believe that Sir Jim Ratcliffe only came up with the idea of building his own car five years ago. Savour that thought: little more than 60 months have passed between the concept of a new vehicle being hatched in a London pub and today’s handover of this Built-on-Purpose adventure-ready car.
MATZKER KFZ-TECHNIK
In addition to luxury 4x4s, Matzker has made a name for itself during the last 35 years as the specialist when it comes to race, rally and travel preparation. From vehicle optimisation to customised parts—everything from a single source.
If a classic 4×4 is your poison, then a talk with the Matzker Classic Department might be on the cards: whether a Land Rover Series 1, 2 or 3, original Camel Trophy cars or even a very rare pre-war sports car like the Lagonda M45 T7 Open Tourer, the selection is unique.
But today, we celebrate the adventurer who can steer his new INEOS Grenadier towards the horizon in the knowledge he has chosen the right vehicle and has a strong partner to support him.
