The Land Rover Club Holland celebrated its 35th anniversary with a party spanning four days from May 18th until the 21st. Approximately 1800 Land Rover fans and owners from twelve countries gathered in the beautiful grounds surrounding Middachten Castle, in Steeg.
The furthest travelled came from Norway, having covered 1246 km. The oldest vehicle was a 1955 Series 1 and the youngest a New Defender. One of the highlights was possibly the last remaining of six Land Rover Classics made—of the remaining five, one was stolen on its way to its presentation in 1986, the other four have disappeared without a trace.
The event held something in store for all age groups. Whether taking a passenger seat in a new Defender as it drove a purpose built obstacle course, a guided tour through the castle, the Miniclub, or an off-road course for the kids with electric mini Defenders—the choice of activities was generous.
If you were ambitious enough, you could even drive your own vehicle through a nearby gravel pit and test your capabilities in three different courses, each more challenging than the one before it.
As far as keeping body and soul together was concerned, there were food trucks offering different styles of cuisine and areas where you could simply go to chill. During the evening, live bands and a DJ played music from the 80s.
The CTHC (Camel Trophy History Club) from Berlin came with twelve cars including a Camel Trophy Defender, Freelander and Discovery. Jürgen Falkner Musial, founder and organiser of the CTHC and member of the original Camel Trophy selection committee, also joined the festivities.
In retrospect, the event was perfectly organised by the team of highly motivated volunteers. Particularly noteworthy was the “sustainable” barbecue they organised for nearly 2000 guests whereby everyone had to bring their own plates and cutlery which, in turn, dramatically reduced the amount of rubbish they would have otherwise produced.
Finally, contestants in the Concours d’Elegance 75 Years of Land Rover were put on display and honoured in front of the castle. A fitting tribute to the history of the marque and a perfect way to round off this truly memorable anniversary.
As the saying goes, after the party is before the party and we are already looking forward to 2028 when the next motto with be 40 Years Land Rover Club Holland.
