NEWS: Toyota Hilux GR SPORT II – imposing appearance, better performance

Sprache wechseln German

Toyota takes the legendary Hilux to a completely new level. Along with an imposing facelift, better performance and improved ride comfort make the Hilux GR Sport II a highly desirable vehicle.

Building on its multiple Dakar Rally-winning heritage, the Hilux GR SPORT II takes the pioneering pick-up to a completely new level since its introduction in 1968.

The double cab Hilux GR SPORT II delivers a powerful combination of enhanced handling and stability, with best-in-class towing (3500 kg) and payload (1000 kg) capacity. It stands out from the crowd, wherever the spirit of adventure takes it.

Compared to the standard Hilux, the GR SPORT II’s front and rear track is 140 mm and 155 mm wider. This modification creates a confidence-inspiring ride even in adverse weather or road conditions.

THE BEST DRIVING HILUX EVER

Besides the wider track, the improved driving experience results from increased stability, precise steering, reduced noise, upgraded suspension and enhanced brakes. All of these improvements result in a dynamic driving experience without compromising ride comfort.

The powerful and responsive drivetrain is based upon the proven 2.8-litre engine and a six-speed automatic gearbox. First introduced to the Hilux range in 2020, the engine delivers 204 DIN hp / 150 kW and 500 Nm of torque.

EXTERIOR DESIGN

  • Imposing updated look and powerful stance
  • Weight and drag reduction from new 17-inch wheels
  • Hilux’s motorsport success resonates through GR SPORT details

No matter from what angle you look at the GR SPORT II, it is imposing. Black wheel arches, 17″ black alloys, red coil springs and coloured monotube suspension (black at the front, red at the rear) underline its purposeful stance.

The new wheels also contribute to performance. The large rims reduce aerodynamic drag while an ultra-efficient central spoke trims wheel weight.

Further exterior characteristics include the black G mesh front grille featuring the classic Toyota logo, black sidestep, mirrors, rear bumper and door handles. A silver-coloured protective front underguard and distinctive GR SPORT logos compliment an evocative appearance.

INTERIOR DESIGN

  • Premium monochrome colour theme aligns with sporty red accents
  • Enhancements for driving practicality and enjoyment
  • Exclusive GR SPORT instrument panel details
  • New multimedia system including wireless Android Auto® and Apple CarPlay®

The Hilux GR SPORT II’s exterior style extends to the interior. A black, monochrome theme creates a stylish feel. Bold accents, such as the contrasting red seat belts, paddle controls and aluminium sport pedals hint at its motorsport DNA.

The sports seats are upholstered in perforated black suede with silver stitching. Lending the interior an air of luxury, they enhance comfort and provide support under heavy cornering.

Completing the high-quality look and feel of the Hilux GR SPORT II cabin is a new hydrographic ornament on the door trim and dashboard, which also features GR details on the information display and instrumentation.

INFOTAINMENT

Equipped with an 8″ touchscreen and the latest Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system, the driver’s side of the display has a permanent, icon-based menu. Users can connect their smartphone or tablet to the system – both wired and wirelessly if using Apple CarPlay® or with a wired link for Android Auto®.

The multimedia package includes access to cloud-based journey navigation, which uses constantly updated real-time traffic event information for accurate and efficient route planning. There is also an embedded navigation system for those occasions when no data connection to the cloud is available.

Future software tweaks or upgrades will be delivered seamlessly over the air, via the car’s data communications module (DCM). This means the car does not have to visit a workshop for a system update. Likewise, the system can update software in the Toyota T-Mate/Toyota Safety Sense.

TECHNICAL IMPROVEMENTS

  • Functional design strengthened by enhanced approach angle and greater ground clearance
  • Optimal front and rear suspension balance for smoother, more stable ride
  • More precise, powerful braking with bigger 17-inch front discs and new 15-inch rear discs
  • Approach challenging conditions with confidence thanks to new monotube suspension

Hilux is famous for its “go anywhere” off-road capabilities and dependability, and the latest model strengthens that legacy.

An increase from 29 degrees to 30 degrees of approach angle, and 20 mm more ground clearance, extend its formidable off-road capabilities.

Aerodynamically, the Hilux GR SPORT II takes a no-compromise approach thanks to the new air curtain structure, including a brand-new bumper with a functional fog lamp bezel which seeks to optimize drag efficiency and reduce turbulence in the wheel arch. The air curtain is further optimised with the adoption of an aero sports bar and deck cover.

A monotube piston replaces the current twin tube solution, providing better damping performance and faster response in tough conditions thanks to its larger piston area. That helps the Hilux GR SPORT II navigate undulating or uneven surfaces with confidence and safety.

The new lighter 17-inch wheels and all-terrain tyres improve grip and overall stability. Larger 17″ front discs and new 15″ discs at the rear provide precise, powerful braking for peace of mind.
